The fourth annual Aboriginal Education Research Forum - Shawane Dagosiwin is being held May 7 - 9, 2008 at the Victoria Inn Hotel, Winnipeg MB. The theme for this year's Forum is "Ethics of Honouring Indigeneous Knowledge Bundles and Elder Teachings for Research Relevance". This exciting two day event will include keynote speakers Dr. Marie Battiste (Mi'kmaw) and Elder Tom Porter (Sakokwenionkwas - from the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation). Both of our keynote speakers have embodied traditional knowledge and ethics in their respective work of reclaiming, rekindling and asserting their Indigenous knowledge bundles and ethics in their lifework to advance Aboriginal/traditional content, life-ways, spirituality, communities and life careers. True Sport Community Fund
Submission Deadline: May 31st and October 31st.
Communities in Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland are invited to submit proposals for programs to increase opportunities for children and youth to play sports. Aboriginal communities are one of the Fund's priorities. For more information about eligibility and the funding available, visit http://www.truesport.ca/tsfund. If CAAWS or the ASC can support your application (e.g. a letter of support), please contact us.
KidFitCommunity Advocacy Fund grants
As part of the Foundation's on-going commitment to tackle childhood obesity, the KidFit™ Fund will now include advocacy projects targeting access to healthy food as well as physical activity for elementary school-aged children. The Foundation has also increased the total amount of funding available for the May 2008 competition to $200,000.For information about the funding criteria and application forms for the $2000, $5000, and $25,000 KidFit™ grants, visit www.heartandstroke.ca/kidfit, or contact Vonnie Barron at vbarron@hsf.on.ca or 416-489-7111, ext 390. The next application deadline is May 1, 2008.

January 15, 2007 Aboriginal Peoples in Canada in 2006: Inuit, Métis and First Nations, 2006 Census Findings and highlights of population, crowded housing and health issues, and aboriginal languages.
Health Canada
The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada recently formed the Office of Inuit Health to advise Health Canada on programs and policies, and provide a more coordinated approach to Inuit health. See brochure attached below.

| Deadline April 1, 2008 The Ethnocultural and Aboriginal Pilot Project Grant program supports both new and established investigators who wish to undertake research projects. HSFO has identified four communities in particular for focus over the next 3-5 years and pilot grants are available for research in Ontario aboriginal communities.
